2K Games has welcomed a seasoned producer from Respawn Entertainment to lead the studio crew at 31st Union, which is currently working on the forthcoming third-person action-packed title known as Project Ethos.
Leadership Change Follows Poor Response
Brinkman takes on the leadership position at 31st Union following the departure of former leader the ex-Sledgehammer Games executive, who was reportedly let go due to the game's underwhelming early showing last fall.
Recently, the company's top executive a key figure informed employees about this decision through an internal memo, which emphasized that playtesting had indicated the necessity for a clearer vision.
Ismailer stated that the team is now overhauling the project with a renewed vision, aiming to address community desires.
A Pattern of Key Acquisitions
The news echoes a comparable move taken by 2K Games in August, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to work on the beloved franchise development group.
Here is the entire content from Ismailer's communication:
Dear Team—
I know you all just wrapped up your town hall - I hope you’re as enthusiastic as I am with the recent updates. Last time I sent you all a update, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this team. You all are some of the most motivated and innovative designers we have had the opportunity to partner with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to continue.”
Through your commitment and adaptability, particularly over the past twelve months, you repeatedly show that.
The player input from last autumn’s Project ETHOS demo was enlightening. It affirmed the appeal of a action-packed game but indicated we still had work to do. It revealed the requirement for a more distinct vision.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve advanced. You embraced the feedback to mind and revamped the title with a refreshed goal - one that’s poised to achieve its potential to our players.
The belief in Project ETHOS strengthens every day. To advance the incredible development you’ve made, It is a pleasure to welcome the new hire as the latest Studio Head of the team. Following a period of talks, Ben officially joins us on Monday, October 20.
Ben’s management and expertise in the PVP shooter space is vast, having dedicated the last 15 years creating and leading some of the most well-known series in the industry, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and lately, the battle royale hit.
Let’s together in receiving him soon. We are all looking forward to continue observing the development of the game in the time to ahead.
David

Title Details and Concept
Project Ethos was revealed in last year together with a community playtest. Initially, the developers presented the game as a "free-to-play, third-person perspective action-packed experience and an innovative advancement on the style."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Customize your character in real-time to fit your unique tactics," the game's pitch states. "Challenge the competition with unique powers, risks, and obstacles that evolve every session. Will you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Alternatively take a risk, risk it all, and pray your team can earn top ranking? The decision is yours."
The game has not yet received an announced debut schedule or supported systems, but players can anticipate more updates as development continues.
