Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been won on hard courts
A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his first title for 882 days with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.
The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging season, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the American major.
His inconsistency on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serve in especial - led to him falling of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-term mentor Gilles Cervara.
Currently collaborating with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has steadily improved in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive victory over opponent Corentin Moutet.
It is the player's first title after the Rome competition and initial on a hard court after that period of 2023.
Success also indicates the Russian has achieved twenty-one championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.
"This marks the first occasion I am participating in a event with my both daughters together, so to win a trophy is really nice," commented world number 14 the champion.
"This championship is in honour of my second daughter her name, because the first title I achieved when my child her name was born was for her."
Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his previous six championship matches, including in the German tournament in the past months.
Medvedev's counter-punching play style and recurring reactions on court had led some to doubt if his skill to compete at the highest level was over.
Yet the athlete has altered his approach in recent weeks, attempting to come to the net and play aggressively, reinforced by an improved service.
Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky opponent, winning four of the final five exchanges to gain the advantage.
The competitors exchanged service breaks in the following set before Moutet, striving for his maiden tour championship, took control to create a final set.
He saved four early chances in a tight third set before the Russian won the break to that score to secure the win.
Suitably, the winner clinched the win with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman failing to manage a volley after a lengthy match.
